Kinja'd!!!

We got him at the SPCA. He is 3. He loooves to ignore any name we think of. He was picked up as a stray, but has a microchip so he had a home. The owners were uncontactable and we’re told the chip has no cat name attached. So hes ours and so nice. Anyone know if that name bit is true?

We have three cats and only one actually responds to her name. I think with one he ignores it, and the other just doesn’t get that the name is him.

When we got one from a rescue we had to send in paperwork to register the chip to us. Maybe the previous owners didn’t do that?

That there isn’t a cat name attached? It’s definitely possible. They’ll learn eventually anyway. I have a feral cat who knows his name is Biscuit, but then, he knows that name = food. My pet cats ignore their names unless I have something they want.

For the first 6 months we weren’t sure Vader knew his name, and he didn’t make a sound. Now he’s semi-cooperative.

These two allegedly had names when my partner adopted them fifteen years ago, but he couldn’t remember them. So now they are ‘Thick Stripe’ (on the left) and ‘Thin Stripe’ (on the right), after the stripes that run down their noses.

They don’t respond at all to verbal commands. Oddly, they will come immediately when you snap your fingers.

Mrs. Doubtfire (aka BUBBY!) knows her names and responds to them, she is basically a dog though. We got her when she was 6 weeks old and she used to hang out with the dog all the time and now her personality is just like a dog.

Hammer knows his name, although he’s a cat, so he still do what he wants.

Kinja'd!!!

Unless I yell at him. He’s a scaredy cat when he knows he’s in trouble.

Our cat Peet knows her name.

Her response rate is directly proportional to the chance of snacks.

My cat responded to anything that enede in a long e sound. Also wilbur, boo, woozle, wubba, doodle, dog, and “hey stupid”. Try making an attention getter noise before saying a name, or call name before setting out food. Your cat is likely smart, they will get the idea.

A stray showed up here too, then she got tame and had kittens, so now there’s 4 total. She has issues keeping the water in the bowl when drinking, and she will go right from “pet my stomach awh yish” to “DEATH TO HUMAN” in half a second. The kittens are just as odd.

The only sound my cat acknowledges is that of his food opening. Then he goes nuts.

Otherwise, he DGAF.
